Astrology and psychology, although seemingly very different from each other, share many interesting common principles that bridge the gap between the cosmic and the human soul.
Astrology assumes that the positions and movements of celestial bodies at the moment of a person's birth can provide information about their personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and life patterns. Our Natal Astrological chart is a 'Polaroid', a schematic representation of the celestial image at the moment of our birth and contains significant and unique information about our personal needs and tendencies.
Throughout the centuries, Astrology has always conversed with philosophy, psychology, spirituality, and even Religion. With the flourishing of Sciences in the Western World and the intense focus on 'scientific proof', Astrology was sidelined and squeezed into the last pages of women's magazines, as something haughty and empty of substance.
However, there is very serious contemporary literature, study, and thought on Astrology and how it studies the impact of external factors on human development. Especially the work of C. Jung on astrology renewed the interest of many worthy thinkers in it and gave impetus for a more modern Psychological Astrology.
Carl Jung had a strong interest in astrology and saw it as a valuable symbolic tool for understanding the human soul. Through the use of myths and archetypes, he believed that astrology could provide symbolic information about the functioning of the unconscious, the understanding of which in turn unlocks the understanding of individual experience and behavior.
Jung also emphasized the principle of synchronicity, which is strongly encountered in astrological interpretation, which he described as significant coincidences that are not causally related but have a significant connection. Events seemingly unrelated to each other, occurring at a given moment, show a symbolic connection, which motivates or 'forces' us to realizations that are valuable for our personal understanding and development. The concept of randomness thus, both in Astrology and in Jungian theory, does not exist, in the sense that 'everything happens for a higher purpose'.
Both astrology and psychology aim to understand the human soul and provide a framework for exploring the complexities of personality, relationships, and life experiences. Psychological astrology, a field that merges these two sciences, interprets astrological symbols and patterns through the prism of psychological concepts. This approach offers a unique perspective on human behavior and consciousness, emphasizing self-awareness and personal development. The symbolic language of astrology allows individuals to understand their inner motives, desires, and challenges, just as psychological theories do.
